Privacy policy

Two different things

It is worth separating them, because they have very different answers.

This website is a set of static pages hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It exists to explain the software.

The FreeSDN software is what you install on your own servers. We never see it, never connect to it, and receive nothing from it.

What this website collects

Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled. It records aggregate page views, referrers, and broad country and device-type breakdowns. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not build a profile that follows you between sites. We use it to see which pages are worth writing more of.

Cloudflare also processes requests as the CDN and, in doing so, handles your IP address to deliver the page and to mitigate attacks. That is a technical necessity of serving a website rather than a choice we make about you.

Typefaces are declared from Google Fonts but are not served by Google. Cloudflare Fonts rewrites the reference and serves the font files from this domain, so your browser never contacts Google and Google never sees your visit. You can confirm it: the font requests in your browser's network panel go to freesdn.org, not to fonts.gstatic.com.

Search runs entirely in your browser against a static index file. Queries are never sent anywhere, including to us. Documentation at docs.freesdn.org uses your operating system's own typefaces and loads no webfonts at all.

What this website does not collect

• No accounts, because there is nothing to sign up for.
• No advertising, no advertising networks, and no tracking pixels.
• No cookies set by this site.
• No cross-site tracking, and no data sold or shared with brokers.
• No newsletter, so no mailing list to be added to.

What the software collects

Nothing. FreeSDN has no telemetry requirement, no licence check, no usage reporting and no phone-home behaviour. It runs air-gapped. If you block all outbound traffic from the host, the product keeps working, because there is no call it needs to make.

Your device inventory, credentials, logs, recordings and metrics live in your own database on your own hardware. We have no access to any of it and no mechanism that could give us access.

Optional features that talk to third parties

Some features reach outside your network only if you configure them, and they are off until you do:

• The AI assistant contacts whichever provider you configure. Local models through Ollama keep this entirely on your own hardware.
• Notification providers contact the service you point them at, such as email or chat.
• Firmware and update checks contact the vendor you are checking against.

None of these route through us. Your instance talks directly to whoever you configured.

If you contact us

Issues and discussions happen in public on GitHub, under GitHub's privacy policy rather than ours. If you email a security report, we keep the correspondence for as long as it takes to resolve the issue and to credit you if you want credit.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. The page is in the public repository, so its history is visible to anyone who wants to check what it used to say.
